Wine Intensity

Wine intensity: some wines have it, some wines don't.

Some are meant to be dainty and delicate...yet hardly memorable.

Others come with a ka-POW punch, so robust, solid, muscular, powerful that they knock off any other lingering tastes in your mouth.

Powerful wines confront your senses, sometimes you'll like it, sometimes you'll find it a bit too aggresive for your total enjoyment. (If you have a gag reflex after sniffing a strong wine, it's probably not the right wine for you!)

But what makes powerful wines so persuasive?

They have high extract - which is the small solids and particles in the wine.

This, paired with high tannic content, exemplifies a 'heavy mouthfeel'. Almost all powerful wines exhibit that undeniable 'punch' in the mouth..

It's important for wine drinkers to EXPERIMENT with different wine and food combinations.

Don't brush off a delicate white wine until you've had a glass or two on a hot summer's afternoon with some fruit salad...

I'm a firm believer that each wine shines in its proper moment. Mix and match until you find what works best for you.
